A somewhat modified tube driver. It's basically a 12vac tubedriver with the tone stack replaced by a 0.1uf coupling cap. Much grind and grit in the low notes. Recorded with an epi sg neck humbucker, tone all the way back and the pedal drive at 1/5, so the ic overdrive hasn't kicked in yet. Instant cream! (ok it doesn't sound like a 100watt plexi on 10 or anything, but still a damn nice stompbox!).

Strat bridge/middle. kbv : High Gain. Strat bridge/middle, first with guitar volume at 6, then full. kbhgtr1: High Gain. Tele bridge. kbhgtr2: Ultra High Gain. Tele Bridge. Noisey due to breadboard. kbl1: Medium High Gain. Tele Bridge. Starts off with body at thick, then light (12 seconds), then center (22 seconds). It is subtle due to the use of the bridge pick up. |

From Scott Swartz:
This sample includes notes all across the neck so that you can hear how it tracks, and at the end I play some intervals which give a ring modulator type of sound that is interesting. The recording signal chain is guitar amp to Sennheiser MD421 to homebrew tube mic preamp to mixer (EQ bypassed) to Tascam CD Burner. The stereo effects buss of the mixer was used to add a small amount of digital reverb, Small Chamber preset on a Digitech TSR-24. The guitar is a McInturff Polaris set to the neck pickup and the tone knob turned to zero. Amp is a homebrew Twin Reverb type circuit set for a clean sound, all distortion heard is coming from the effect. |

Samples recorded from line out of Marshall VS100R. There's a little bit of reverb from the amp. |
